General Information
Camp Winnarainbow is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation and is not part of a larger agency. The number of scholarships we are able to give out is based on the level of contributions we receive each year. We are deeply committed to energetic fundraising because we know our ability to offer scholarships enriches everyone's experience of camp. While we sometimes receive more requests than we are able to fill and have to turn down some potential campers, we do stretch these limited funds as far as possible to accept as many children as we can.
Selection Criteria
We select children whose families are below the poverty line (see income guidelines below) and are unable to pay the full cost of camp. In selecting our scholarship campers, we try to create the rainbow of diversity that is intrinsic to our camp. We select campers who will help us to balance our camp racially, culturally and economically. Approximately two-thirds of the scholarship funds we grant go to campers whom we have recruited through agencies that serve children in distressed living circumstances. In particular, we seek to grant scholarships for children with creative abilities and talents who have no other means of developing these skills.
Income Guidelines
Camp Winnarainbow uses the Federal Government's USDA Summer Food Service Program income guidelines in order to determine eligibility for Grace & Joy funding. Below is the income chart used according to family size. Income is verified by a copy of your family's most recent tax returns.

Co-Payment
Our scholarship program is a partnership between the camper families, the donors and Camp Winnrainbow itself. We offer scholarships only to families whose incomes are below the federal poverty line and do not grant scholarships to campers without partial payment from the family. The only exceptions we make to this policy are for children who are part of a homeless program or are in other extreme circumstances. The Application Process
Please send a letter detailing the prospective camper's financial situation and why s/he would be a good match for Winnarainbow. (artistic talents, interest in the circus arts, etc.) Please send this letter by February 28th to:
The Grace and Joy Scholarship Program
1301 Henry Street
Berkeley, CA 94709
After we receive the letter, we will mail the official Grace & Joy
Scholarship application to you, which needs to be returned by March 28,
2008. However depending on availability, we may be able to accept campers
outside of these time guidelines who are recommended to us by social service
agencies. If you have any questions, please contact Timmy Yuen at (510)
525-4304 or email timmy@campwinnarainbow.org.
