Emily Heller
Former camper, comedian, writer, actor, podcast host
“Camp Winnarainbow is where I learned all the invisible skills I needed to become a working artist. It’s not just that I got a chance to learn how to dance, sing, act, and walk on stilts — those are skills I could have picked up and honed elsewhere. But camp is where I learned how to actually find my way in the world as a creative person. At camp, I learned to collaborate; to follow through on my weirdest ideas; to try new things with openness and optimism; to celebrate my peers; to share the stage. And perhaps most importantly, camp taught me that it’s okay to look silly. Having now made my living at various times as a comedian, actor, television writer, and podcaster, I’ve used every one of these lessons again and again while building a creatively fulfilling life for myself, and I owe that to Camp Winnarainbow.”

Hannah Hooper
Former camper, singer, songwriter, founder of Grouplove
“Camp Winnarainbow was this incredible opportunity to be whoever I was in the moment. Free from family and school friends I felt like I could spread my wings and learn all about myself. I got to sing and make art and wear stilts and just be the little hippy freak I always knew I was.”

Camp Winnarainbow alumni and parent, femme-weirdo, author/musician
“Camp Winnarainbow basically made me who I am. It was and still is the safest place I know for a person to be themselves. Now, my son gets to experience the love and joy that is the lifeblood of camp!
To send your child to Camp Winnarainbow, is to succeed in planting the seeds for the cultivation of accountable and caring human beings. We need more camp people in the world!
The songs, the people, the Labyrinth, and especially the big show, make up the memories that I will hold close to my heart for all my days on earth. I am so grateful for the time I spent as a camper.”

Family of camper, 14 time GRAMMY award-winning singer/songwriter
“Camp Winnarainbow is a magical place where kids can discover the joy of just being kids, away from tablets and iPhones; my grandchildren loved being there and can’t wait to go back- thank you Camp Winnarainbow!”
Reya Hart
Camp alum, journalist, music industry professional
“I arrived at Winnarainbow as a 10-year-old camper. I went back every summer for three weeks at a time, continuing through my teenage years as a member of the teen staff, teaching poetry and stilt walking.
Over 20 years later, the friendships I gained from camp have remained some of my closest and dearest. Beyond that, Winnarainbow truly helped me develop a sense of who I wanted to be in the world, what was important to me, and a belief in the power of a community that is built for good, for joy, and for love.
I am incredibly grateful for the time that I spent at Winnarainbow and that camp continues to grow its legacy to this day.”
Xochitl Sosa
Circus Artist- Founder & Director of Cirque Vida
As a professional circus artist with my own company and over a decade of performing, I understand the true gift of Camp Winnarainbow: the confidence that camp gives each and every camper, the positivity and love that wraps around camp and teaches kindness to all, the unconventional careers and pathways I saw in my mentors, and the talented and passionate staff that encircle camp. These lessons aren’t written in the description on the camp website, but they are the heart of what camp is really about, and why so many people who pass through this community go on to build lives and careers around their art and social justice. Looking back now, I realize those lessons shaped not only my career, but the way I move through the world as an artist and a person. As a mother of two, I look forward to bringing my kids to camp and know that, just like it was for me, it will become a special, one-of-a-kind experience that will shape their lives. To say that Camp Winnarainbow is simply a summer camp is a misjustice. Camp was where I made lifelong friends. It was where I learned skills that I still cherish today. It was my first job. It was my spirituality. And I believe there is no place quite like it that I have ever found. I am forever grateful to Camp Winnarainbow.
